Relationships
He fights Kronos more in order to protect friends and family than from any need to see the enemy brought to justice. Had he not become host for a Guyver Unit, he probably would have happily continued in ignorance of Kronos.
He cares deeply for Mizuki Segawa with the intensity of first love and Tetsuro Segawa, Mizuki's older brother, is his closest friend. He had two other friends who tease him about his relationship with Mizuki named Takaya and Mono but they were killed.
Sho lived with his father, Fumio Fukamachi Until he was turned into a Zoanoid and was killed by his own son.
When he initially transformed into the Guyver, Sho was unconscious from the trauma of having the Unit forcibly bond itself to him. However, the Guyver itself was able to deal with the threat of the Zoanoids that had been dispatched to retrieve the lost Guyver Unit. Once Sho awakened from the fugue-like state that he had entered while bonding to the Unit, he was initially terrified of the armor that he found himself wearing, as well as its capacity for sheer destruction.
These feelings lead to him rejecting the armor, which in turn caused the armor itself to retreat from him and store itself in the sub-dimension that the armor resides in when not in use.
However, this was only a temporary reprieve; the armor itself was still firmly bonded to him. Nothing short of the Unit Remover would be able to change that fact. Sho, however, was simply relieved to be free of the armor; he didn't know yet that he would not be able to get out of the situation so easily.
When the next group of Chronos thugs confronted him - a pair of Ramotith lead by Guyver II in the 12 part OVA, and a group of Ramotith lead by a Vamore in the 2005 TV series and the manga - he was again able to call upon the Guyver to protect himself and his best friend, Tetsuro. In doing so, he discovered the most powerful of the Guyver's weapons: the mighty Mega Smasher; in the first two OVAs, he was also able to kill Guyver II at this point.
After that, Sho began to realize that the situation he was now in was very serious, and also, that there was far more to it than what he had seen so far.
From there, the stories follow two divergent, but related, paths.
The next opponent that Sho had to face was a man named Kimura, who worked for Genzo Makishima, and who had been transformed into the Hyper Zoanoid Synevite.
Once Synevite made the mistake of taking Tetsuro for a hostage, Sho - having initially been severly battered by the long tentacles of the Zoanoid, and lacking a method to inflict more than superficial damage on the soft body of the squidlike Zoanoid - found new resolve, and with it, a way to use the Guyver's Vibration Blades.
Soon enough, Sho was forced to face the most dangerous opponent that he had come up against thus far: a Chronos-aligned Guyver named Oswald Lisker.
Forced to fight for his life against Lisker, not even minutes after he had been brutalized by the Zoanoid Synevite, Sho was only able to escape from the vicious Chronos inspector thanks to a fortunate malfunction from Lisker's Control Medal. Returning with Tetsuro to the latter's house, Sho rested from his battle. He also wondered about what he had just seen; while he and Tetsuro waited for Mizuki to finish preparing dinner, Sho discussed his misgivings with his long-time friend.
Then, hearing a yell from Mizuki, Sho raced up to her room to see if he could give aid during what he likely thought was some kind of a struggle. However, this turned out to be something of a miscalculation on his part, leading to a great deal of embarrassment on both his and Mizuki's parts. He did, however, stand just outside her door while she regained her composure.
Lisker, having had extensive combat training as part of his pre-processing preparations for becoming a Hyper-Zoanoid, was easily able to get the upper hand on Sho. However, due to a timely malfunction on the part of Lisker's Control Medal, Sho was able to gain back the upper hand and kill him on the very same day he made his attack on the high school Sho, Tetsuro and Mizuki attended.
With Lisker dead, and even knowing what would befall him if his Control Medal were ever to be removed, Sho attempted to return to his normal life. His next day at school was rather placid, though not without some small annoyances along the way. Once they had finished the last of their work for the Sci-Fi Club, Sho and Tetsuro headed for their respective homes, clearly intending to walk together for as long as they could.
On their way home, Sho, curious about Agito since Mizuki had clearly taken an interest in him, began to question Tetsuro about the older boy.
Tetsuro, who had been close to the older boy some time ago, told him what he knew about Agito's past. Sho, who had grown up with a father, a mother, and a fairly normal life, was sympathetic to Agito's situation.
These moments of peace and reflection weren't to last, however; a small force of Zoanoids - numbering six in all, appeared just a few moments after Tetsuro had finished telling Sho about Agito's past. The two of them started running but Tetsuro, who lacked Sho's - by comparison - greater athleticism, soon began to fall behind. Perused over the side of a steep embankment, Tetsuro and Sho were both seized by the Zoanoids who had driven them to ground.
Sho called the Guyver without hesitation, causing his captor to lose his grip and be knocked backward. After dispatching the four Chronos Troopers that had come after them, both Sho and Tetsuro watched in stunned horror as three of them were killed by a sudden barrage of acid spray. As it turned out, this was the calling-card of the newest Zoanoid - a Hyper-Zoanoid named Zerebubuth - that Chronos had sent out in their latest effort to deal with him permanently.
At first, it seemed as if this latest effort of theirs was destined to succeed; Zerebubuth's armored carapace was impervious to Sho's punches, as well as resistant to his Head Beam. Zerebubuth was also equipped with bio-lasers on both arms, in addition to the three acid-dispensing tentacles on his head.
Sho was able to breach his carapace in the back with a powerful kick delivered with both legs. However, before he could capitalize on this newly-created weakness in Zerebubuth's armor, the Hyper Zoanoid spotted Mizuki, who had by extreme misfortune happened to be walking by. Leaping to the top of the embankment with a speed that belied his sheer size, Zerebubuth grabbed hold of her, intending to use her as a hostage.
However, while Sho himself was prevented from acting against the Hyper Zoanoid for fear of Mizuki's life, others were not so constrained. When Sho finally caught up, he found Mizuki safely on the ground, and a mysterious, darkly-armored figure crowned with six short spines. This, he soon came to realize, was the host of the third Guyver.
The next day started off rather normally, with a trip to school, and the work accomplished therein. Tetsuro thanked him for saving Mizuki from Zerebubuth, but Sho himself was of the opinion that it was his own involvement with her that had brought her into Chronos' sights in the first place. While this assessment was partially influenced by his own emotions, it would prove to be rather prescient.
When he received a note from Chronos, challenging him to meet them at Mt. Narisawa, the very place where he had first come into contact with the Guyver, and also where he had killed his first Zoanoid. There was a certain poetic circularity to their choice of battleground, but it would only become obvious after the battle had finished; no one in-universe would notice it. Sho was determined to go alone to the site, but Tetsuro wouldn't hear of it, and with some doing convinced him not to.
When the two of them arrived at the site Chronos had chosen, they were confronted by Genzo Makishima. Stripped of his position as one of Chronos Japan's managerial staff and - unknown to Sho and Tetsuro at the time - transformed into the prototype for the Guyver-killer Enzyme series, Genzo was quick to take the anger he felt at being so easily cast aside out on Sho. Transforming into the Zoanoid form he had been forcibly given, Genzo/Enzyme struck a devastating first blow: jamming his acid-secreting claws into Sho's chest, and this disabling the Mega-Smasher until the bio-armor could recover from the injury inflicted.
This, however, would take time; time was not on Sho's side in this battle.
With his Mega-Smasher damaged, Sho was left with only his melee weapons, something that would prove to be a severe hinderance when facing a creature like Enzyme; and also the later models that would come to bear that name. Hitting Enzyme's right shoulder with the Pressure Cannon, Sho was forced to dodge quickly as the Zoanoid whose later iterations would come to be known as the Guyver-killers swiped at him in retaliation. Enzyme's strength was great enough to both uproot and destroy the tree that he hit in place of Guyver I, causing it to snap like a twig.
Sho himself was the next to feel Enzyme's wrath; the Guyver-killer slashing him with claws and tail, leaving Sho with bleeding wounds on his arm, thigh, and head. However, while he had been fighting with Enzyme, the Guyver had been working to restore itself with a speed not seen in any other creature. Sho was surprised but pleased by this development, and would have obliterated Enzyme with his Mega-Smasher, if not for the fact that the Chronos agents dispatched by Richard Guyot to the site of their battle had managed to capture Tetsuro.
Sean Barker is the live action counterpart of Sho Fukamachi. But does have major differences, such as his name, and not being Japanese. In the first film he was a college student and not a high school student, he is also part of a karate class. It's also different how he found and equipped the Guyver, he stumbled upon it at the location of Tetsu Segawa's death when he was killed by Lisker. After he takes it he gets himself caught in a fight with gangsters, while having the lower hand of the fight he accidently activates it and beats up all the gangsters. In the end of the film he kills Fulton Balcus by using his mega-smasher, him and Mizky then leave the Chronos building as lovers. He is portrayed by Jack Armstrong but is later replaced with David Hayter in the second film.
In the second film Sean becomes mentally tortured by his transformation into the Guyver, due of the fact that he's now brutally killing criminals on the streets, and doesn't know what to do with his power. Which also results in Mizky breaking up with him. He is drawn to an archaeological dig that turns out to be funded by Chronos. While there he falls in love with the leading lady of the film, Cori. He also meets another major character, Atkins, who works for the government, and Cori's father, Marcus. Later on, an alien ship is dug up. At the dig, Sean later learns that some of the people at the dig are Zoanoids who are being led by Crane, the main antagonist of the film. Cori's father also happens to be one. Later on everyone goes inside the ship, and Cori finds another Guyver Unit. Crane takes it planning to return it to Chronos HQ. Cori, overhearing of Crane's plan, is then took hostage by some of the Zoanoids and is about to be killed. Sean learning about this becomes the Guyver and saves Cori, slaughtering the two Zoanoids. Crane hearing that Guyver killed them, he instead equips the Unit to himself. Sean and Cori return to the dig planning to destroy the alien ship. Before thinking about destroying it, Sean goes inside the ship as the Guyver learning about the history of humanity and the purpose of the Guyver. While exiting the ship Cori and Atkins are held hostage by the Zoanoids. Cori's father comes in and frees them from their grasp. Cori then takes cover while Guyver, Atkins, and her father fight off the Zoanoids. Guyver and Atkins kill all the Zoanoids except for Crane who manages to kill Marcus. Crane then turns into the Guyver Zoanoid, who has a damaged control metal. Him and Guyver duke it out. Guyver starts losing against the Guyver Zoanoid, until Cori shoots the Guyver Zoanoid in the control metal causing his suit to malfunction. Guyver then rips off the damaged control metal causing him to liquify. Guyver then proceeds to use his mega-smasher to end his misery. After the Guyver Zoanoid's defeat, Guyver then makes the ship take off into space. They all get out of the dig. Atkins then asks Sean to help him and the government launch an underground war against Chronos. Sean refuses and drives away happily with Cori, ending the film.
Sean's problem where he inevitably killed criminals with his Guyver powers can be compared with Sho's whom had his Guyver killed his Zoaformed father against his wishes. The differences however, Sean had his Guyver killed thugs against his wishes when he still awake whereas Sho had his Zoaformed father tore half of his brain that render him lost consciousness, caused his Guyver possesses him and killed his Zoaformed Father in cold blood while restoring its host's fatal injuries. Reason how Sean had his Guyver's killer instinct get best of him may have something to do with when his control Medal attacked by Zoanoids in first film where they hit it first before tore it from his head. Control Medal of a Guyver was meant to supressed the unit from eating the host as well as allowed the unit's semi-sentience taking over the body as mindless killing machine to protect him/her from perceived threats should the host suffer a fatal wound that made him/her lost consciousness. The attack on Control Medal of Sean's Guyver during events of the first movie may cause his Guyver's semi-sentience surfaced onto his mind in form of urge to kill that he had to struggle with whenever he wore his Guyver armor around his enemies, resulting him unknowingly fatally wound criminals that he fought against.
Abilities and Powers
Bio- Enhancement
This is the primary ability of the Guyver Unit. It has been stated that the organism that composes the majority of the Unit (and by extension the Guyver itself) was engineered to adapt, conform, and enhance the physical characteristics of its host life-form to maximize their full genetic potential. By comparison, the Guyver-equipped Creators were vastly inferior to humans equipped with the same unit, due to humanity’s original status as biological weapons. In this fashion, the powers and capabilities of an armored organism are dictated by their host genetics, and not by the Guyver itself; meaning, simply, that a Guyver worn by one individual and possessing a certain ability cannot then carry that ability over to its next host, unless that host shares the same genetic identifications of the previous.
In general, the armor will most likely boost all of the physical capabilities of its hosts without discrimination: tripling the strength, speed, stamina, endurance, and reflexes of all its hosts equally. The armor will also protect its host from harsh environments that could hurt or even kill them, such as open vacuum or crushing ocean depths.
The Guyver organism itself partially merges with the hosts DNA, augmenting them on both a genetic and cellular level.
Though the host's bones and muscles aren't replaced, per-se, they are Bio-Boosted by this merging of Unit and Host; increasing their cellular growth to peak levels; allowing the host to exist in a state of permanent perfect health and essentially making the physical condition of any prospective host irrelevant. Furthermore, the body is infused with bio-organic energy which both helps fuel the host's biology and increases their bone and muscle density, thus granting the Guyver an overall increase in physical strength.
The physical alterations, like the replaced heart and lungs, allow for far greater blood flow alongside the production of super oxygenated blood to better regulate the hosts bodily functions. They are also equipped with a super-efficient metabolism which allows them to draw sustenance from almost anything, including traditionally non-edible items, such as rocks or even metal.
Finally, the Guyver possesses a system of organs that allow it to channel gravitational energy through the body, which can then be used to instantly boost the hosts momentum by a factor of 10x (allowing the Guyver to punch or kick far harder than normal speed and mass would allow)
This compensates for the fact the Guyver has neither 100x the mass nor 100x the speed of the host, both of which is normally needed to give 100x the power of a punch or kick. It's also a very efficient method of directly channeling energy into a physical attack, allowing the hosts to fight with absolute efficiency without the need for training or conditioning.
Regeneration/Rapid Accelerated Healing
The organism that composes the majority of the bio-boosted armor is capable of repairing and regrowing any part of itself or it's host at an accelerated rate. So extreme is this ability that it is able to completely regenerate Guyver I from only a few cells attached to the control medal. Even when only a part of the host survives, they can still regenerate into a fully independent organism, sometimes within the span of minutes.
Vibration Globes (口部金属球 -These two orbs located at the Guyver's mouthpiece serve as sonic weapons that can produce highly destructive sound waves. This weapon is known as the Sonic Buster (音波爆破,Sound Wave Destructive Blast). At full power, the sound waves produced by the weapon do not merely batter or shake the object, but in fact "home in" on its molecular resonance frequency, causing it to literally disintegrate into a cloud of disparate particles within a matter of seconds. The sonic buster has also been seen to be able to focus in on particular objects and destroy them without devastating the Guyver’s immediate surroundings and has been seen to reverse Noskov's Sonic Eraser.,Vibration Globes)
Mega-Smasher (胸部粒子砲,Thoratic Particle Beam Cannon) - The Mega Smashers are a set of organs located in the chest, which can channel energy into a single, directed beam of highly charged particles. This beam is officially stated as being capable of delivering a blast of more than 100% Megawatts in terms of force. The organ which produces this beam is fragile but is usually covered by the chest armor.
Considered, in Guyver canon, as the most powerful particle beam weapon existing on Earth, it possesses tremendous destructive capability, gouging through Mount Minakami in an instant.
When fired, the chest armor is opened, and the lens body is exposed. The size of the lens body is still compact in this state but gradually expands as the growing charge of energy pushes the lens outward. Light is gathered at the center of the iris (note: this just means it's glowing as the charge builds up, no external energy is ever drawn in). When the particles are all collected (note: all it has to do is strip atoms within the cells of their electrons or similar subatomic particle to gather this, so still no need for anything external) and reaches a critical point, the smasher is launched/fired.
Fired together or individually, both emitters project the high energy particle beam of energized atoms and electrons that disrupts the atomic and molecular structure of a material target. Analysis from Chronos estimated the power output of this weapon to range in excess of 100-megawatts, comparable to the energy needed to power a military aircraft carrier. Converting this wattage to joules, the Megasmasher would have a kinetic power reaching at least 86 tons of TNT force. This matches up with data file information that even one lens being fired can collapse a multilevel building and puts the Megasmasher at nuclear force power levels; the smallest nuclear explosive devised, the Davey Crockett bomb, has an explosive force of 20 TNT tons.
In Gigantic form, the power of the Mega-Smasher is improved a hundredfold, exceeding 100 gigawatts, and is appropriately dubbed the Giga-Smasher (ギガスマッシャー,Giga-Smasher). Explosive power would be 8.6 kilotons or greater based on the conversion math.
The Mega-Smasher consumes an enormous amount of energy powered from the host who happens to be supercharged by the bio-boost process that basically infuses the host cells with energy from the boost-dimension. This is why the smashers can't be readily fired again as the energy has to be restored within the host body before it can again be channeled to fire the Smashers.
Proficient users have adopted the practice of using one emitter at a time, reducing their energy expenditure by half; reserving using both sides only in extreme situations. Given the nature of the weapon, the particle beam can be deflected with the appropriate energy shielding, such as Neo-ZX-Tole's electromagnetic field emitter. Beings of substantial power, such as Archanfel, have proven quite capable of not only resisting, but reflecting the beam back at its source with much greater power.
Head Beam (ヘッドビーム - A multi-directional infrared laser mounted just above the Control Medal on the Guyver's head. In the 2005 anime series, Lisker explains it utilizes excess body heat, concentrated under one single point and expelled through a laser generator. Since the Head Beam uses body heat, rapid fire is obtainable, and it is often used over the Mega-Smasher which requires a substantial amount of time to charge.
Unlike the normal vent system on the face, the head beam is more efficient and would work even in the vacuum of space. This however does mean the head beam has a limited range, since infrared lasers get distorted and absorbed by the atmosphere.,Head Beam)
High-Frequency Swords, also known as "Sonic Swords" (高周波ソード - These are multi-faceted blades that protrude from the Guyver's forearm and are reinforced by a powerful alternating current and resonate at extremely high frequencies when extended.
This oscillation weakens the molecular bonds of most solid objects within inches of the cutting edge, effectively increasing its cutting ability. While striking, cutting, and thrusting attacks are the usual uses with the blade, proficient users were also able to wield the blade with such accuracy and speed that they were able to deflect bullets.
They also possess elastic properties and can extend up to a meter-long. Though remarkably efficient, they have their limitations.
The placement of the blades limits their effective range and utility to elbow strikes and swings. Also, other vibrational weapons of equal frequency can disrupt the sword's oscillation, often resulting in explosive feedback (often referred to as high-frequency lock or high-frequency clash). Another flaw lays in their durability, as corrosive liquids and explosions can easily destroy them, despite oscillation.
,High-Frequency Swords, also known as "Sonic Swords")
Gravity Controller (重力制御球} - The Gravity Controller orb siphons gravitational energy from a higher dimension. Two main uses include giving the Guyver the ability to fly and to unleash destructive gravity waves that are compressed into a circular shaped ball and fired in the form of a directed Gravity Launcher (重力砲,Gravity Launcher), also known as the "Pressure Cannon". This cannon could also be used to block attacks like a small temporary shield.
,Gravity Controller)
Head Sensor (ヘッド・センサー - Each Guyver displays two metallic orbs on either side of its head. These orbs give the Guyver the ability to sense electromagnetic fields outside of their direct line of physical sight.
The manga often displays this as an outline of whatever body the Guyver is sensing. It also appears to have some thermal sensing properties. This ability was demonstrated early by Guyver I and has gone unnamed until its recent usage by the unknown female Guyver.
It also allows the wearer to home in on sound waves and pick up on vibrations within the atmosphere, allowing the wearer to locate individuals from a distance or sense incoming attacks. The Gigantic exhibits two sets of these organs.,Head Sensor)
Control Medal (制御装置 - Located on the Guyver's forehead, this medal button-like sphere regulates the energy flow between the organism and the host's body, as well as preventing the alien parasite that the Guyver system is based on from literally eating its host alive.
It also stores the genetic structure and memories of its host along with the host's own consciousness, so that if the host is injured or killed, it regenerates the host from even the smallest bits of genetic material (even regenerating scars made by past wounds).
It can also be assumed that control medal's ability to store host's memories and mind is the reason why Guyver users are immune to telepathic control/manipulation.
Such a feature is also the reason why the host's memories prior to brain injury/destruction remain intact as discovered by Sho upon being fully regenerated. If the control medal is destroyed or removed, the Unit absorbs its own host. The control medal has tentacles that reach into the host's brain and is the hard wiring of the Unit that allows the host to use the systems of the Guyver.,Control Medal)
Guyver Bio-Organs
During the joining with the Guyver, the host's body is changed permanently. The Guyver leaves two growths on the back of the host that act as a form of 'transceivers' to the Guyver while also being able to sense other Guyver hosts nearby. When the host calls for the Guyver, a signal is sent and the Guyver is activated. When not needed, the armor is stored in what can best be described as a sub-dimension; it follows the host constantly so as to be instantly available when needed. When the Guyver is called by its host, its appearance causes a destructive burst that damages anything within a few feet of the host's body.
Guyver Gigantic
Sho Fukamachi as Guyver Gigantic.
After Sho and Agito's defeat at Relic's Point, Sho, who was linked to the Relic ship through his control medal, summoned the ship to help him and the others. In doing so the control orbs of the ship (used as the interface between the Guyver and the organic ship) fused together, then pulled Agito and the remains of Sho into it, sealing itself off and relocating itself. Not long after the incident, Agito found a pupa with him and residing inside was the remains of Guyver I, tissues of the ship and the fused control orbs. Sho, desiring more power to fight against Archanfel, had subconsciously used the newly fused control orbs to build an upgrade module for the Guyver unit. One year passed and Sho was finally resurrected as the Guyver Gigantic.
Power & Devices
Energy Amps (エネルギー・アンプ,Energy Amps): They give the Gigantic the ability to produce an omni-directional forcefield similar to a Zoalord's Barrier. Usage of the power amps can include the control of surrounding body parts even if severed from the main body.
Enhanced High Frequency Wave-Vibration Swords: They are now able to become flexible and can grow and curve to amazing distances.
Tri Head Beam Orbs: The large center orb has fifteen times the intensity of a normal Guyver's Head Beam, and the two smaller orbs have the same output of a normal Guyver Head Beam.
Vibration Globes: There are two more Vibration Globes at its mouth, and they are concealed by plates that open out.
Giga-Smasher (ギガスマッシャー,Giga-Smasher): It is one hundred times more devastating than the Mega-Smasher because of the two extra Gravity Control Orbs, one embedded in each chest plate, which grants it extra power.
Gravity Knuckle: A high-powered jab, mostly used in conjunction with the back thrusters, channeling energy into its fist for a powerful discharge upon target impact.
Gravity Ram (重力衝角,Gravity Ram): By extending the chest spike and channeling energy into it, activating the Barrier shield and powering up all three gravity orbs, the Gigantic accelerates using the thrusters on his back. This has the same effect as seen caused by evil Aptom's high-frequency spear, which means the surrounding area is totally obliterated without any visible trace as though atomized.
Plasma Jets (プラズマジェット): On the back of the Gigantic are two large packs that sit right under the shoulder blades. These packs can be used to propel the Gigantic forward at incredible speed and an alarming rate, allowing it to fly much faster than before.
Gigantic Exceed
Sho Fukamachi as Guyver Gigantic Exceed holding Aptom.
The Gigantic Exceed (巨神殖装XD,Gigantic Exceed) is a transformation (only used by Sho thus far) that increases the Gigantic's size to 52 meters, with all the orbs and chest spike glowing and (in Sho's case) the body color changing into a dark red and black.
According to the data file in volume 25, this is the true form of the Gigantic. The three gravity orbs and power amps operate at full capacity, constantly drawing the necessary energy needed to keep the Gigantic's size from "another dimension". All of the Gigantic's weapons and abilities are available in this form, and their power is increased in proportion to its size.
Power & Devices
Gravity Implosion
Gravity Implosion (重力爆縮,Gravity Implosion): is a new weapon used by Sho as "Gigantic Exceed." It behaves like a black hole by sucking in surrounding matter and energy leaving no trace. It seems that this is highly controlled as it appeared to dissipate as soon as Guyver I's opponent was vanquished.
